Hot and Fresh Gist about Kwara State

Friday 29 November 2013

The defection of the break-away faction of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has been fingered as the main factor behind the continued delay in the composition of a new State Executive Council (SEC) in the state. Authoritative sources within the government circle in the state revealed last night to Kwaraleaks that but for the defection of Dr. Bukola Saraki, Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed and their supporters from the PDP to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, a ‘brand new’ State Executive Council, comprising of Commissioners, Senior Special Advisers and Special Assistants would have been inaugurated.

Our source, who craved anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, revealed that barring any last minute change of mind, a new list of Commissioners, Special Advisers and Assistants will be shortlisted and forwarded to the Kwara State House of Assembly for ratification.
‘Now that we have put the defection from the PDP into the APC behind us, we can now settle down for serious business of state. You have to understand that the leader (Bukola Saraki) and Maigida think strategically. They are very well satisfied with the offers made by the national leadership of the APC and are willing to give it a shot. And if you observe leader’s body language of late, you will realize that there is something in the offing. He has therefore given a standing order to the Governor to suspend the composition of his cabinet until all the knotty portions of his discussions with the APC leadership are ironed out’, our source stated with an air of authority.
Continuing, our source revealed that the nPDP party leader is not unaware of the stiff but muted opposition in the state APC which may derail his and his supporters’ smooth defection from the PDP into the APC. So, aside extracting a firm assurance from the national leadership of the APC, he is also willing to concede some commissioner and Special Adviser slots to the original APC members in the state. They could also get Super (Supervisory) Councillorship slots across the local government areas. Although “Super” posts are already zoned and are presently being compiled by our party members as I’m talking, there are certain slots that are reserved for the original APC members in the state when we eventually come together. That is if they are willing to cooperate with the leader’, he said.
It will be recalled that some national leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were in the state recently to woo the State Governor, Alhaji Fatai Ahmed, the Senator representing the Kwara Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Sen. Bukola Saraki and other top shots of the nPDP in the state into their newly registered party, the APC.
It is not clear whether the APC members in Kwara State are aware of this plan. But when contacted, an APC leader in the state, Alhaji Tijani Abdullahi said he has gotten wind of such plan but argued that it is a mere ‘bear-pallor gossip’ with little substance. Also commenting, another prominent and outspoken leader of the APC in the state Bar. Atanda Layi said the issue of enticement with Commissionership slots is a ‘no issue’ since the defecting PDP members are yet to be properly absorbed by the state APC into its structure.
